Hi everyone!
A few quick facts at the top: We’re 10 weeks out from the launch of Making Friends Can Be Murder, my fourth and funniest novel that features not a single unlikable character!
Also, plans are set for my most fun launch party ever. Of course, you’re invited. More about that after I tell you about the psychic!
So here’s what happened. I mentioned to a friend at work that I do weekly tarot readings for myself. It’s not a big deal — I shuffle, make a three-card spread, read the descriptions of the cards in my little guide book, and reflect on intentions for the week. Laura (the work friend) asked if I’d ever been to a professional tarot card reader. I hadn’t been to a professional, and Laura knew a good one. I made an appointment with AJ as a birthday present to myself, and I looked forward to it for weeks.
Last Tuesday finally came. AJ and I met at a coffee shop. As we waited for a latte, she said, “I’m checking in with you, and I feel you want to talk about your work and your oldest son.” Yes! Those were the things I planned to ask her about first and foremost.
We sat down, arranged our crystals (of course, I brought a couple of my own), did a little meditation, and began. Here’s a little list of what happened:
AJ runs her sessions like this: You ask a question about something, she shuffles and reads the cards, and you have a little conversation about what she intuits.
I first asked about work, all of it: my teaching work, my running coaching work, and my writing work. The main takeaway? My drive and productivity have garnered a lot of opportunities and choices, but in all cases (books, school work, running coaching), this is not the moment to exhaust myself by swimming upstream. Instead, I should approach my goals with a sense of pride and confidence. There were way more specifics, but that’s a good summary. I feel settled and excited about the future.
Then I asked about my kids. AJ correctly diagnosed the (not serious) health problem my older flew home to investigate this week. She said it would be transient and then had insights on his future career. Next, she described my younger son in accurate detail. My spirit guides shared advice for me on how to connect more deeply with him. “He has a totally different skill set than you,” they said. “Ask him to teach you things.”
Finally, I wanted to know if AJ had any intel on Kevin, my dead brother. I had hoped he might have a message for me, but he didn’t attend the session (sometimes the spirit people come, but not Kevin this time for me). Still, AJ did have an update on him. She described his cause of death, said he had been surprised by it, and told me he spends most of his time with his angel. He has an angel, which seems pretty great. She also said Kevin’s wacky dog that is now ours will live for two more years despite his total blindness and near incontinence. She laughed at me about that. Yep.
And then we said goodbye, talked plans for another session, and AJ mentioned she does events sometimes…. A few follow-ups, and friends! AJ will be doing mini-sessions AT THE LAUNCH OF MAKING FRIENDS. This will be a perk of the party, so you just get to sit with her and ask a question or two for free. It was so, so fun and empowering, and I can’t wait for my readers to have the experience if they want to. (It’s not required, so if this weirds you out, still come to the party and just steer clear of the tarot cards. :))
That’s an extra incentive to attend, and local folks, it’s time to register for the June 10th party at Pryes Brewing! Go here. Registration is free, but required. If you preorder a copy of Making Friends from the sponsoring bookstore, Magers & Quinn, you get a drink ticket. The value of the ticket is 8 bucks (on me!), so the cost of your book ends up being ten. That’s a steal, and I’m like 95% sure you’ll like it.
See you at the party? Been to a psychic?
Lmk and take care.
Kathleen
Love this! I've always been interested in Tarot but never took the plunge :) Congrats on your new novel! I wish I could be at your launch party - it sounds like buckets of fun!
Launch party sounds like fun! Looking forward to it!
